WorkStep
WorkStep is a B2B platform with a suite of workforce management products. WorkStep tapped Neuron to redesign their RETAIN product, which provides companies with tools to engage and better understand their hourly workforce at scale.
The new design provides managers with a glanceable high-level view, while also making it easy to drill down to the problem areas within an organization based around a new smart alert logic.

Flo
Flo is a reproductive health app for women with more than 33 million monthly users. When they needed a strategic design partner to help increase capacity and offer a new perspective on increasing the perceived value of their premium subscriptions, they chose Neuron. With retention in mind, Neuron worked with Flo’s product team to reimagine their reporting features, ultimately designing a dashboard that helps women understand and compare their cycle data quickly.
Flo’s existing Cycle Report feature sent users information about their cycle with a virtual assistant. In the early stages of our engagement we determined that the content was very valuable to users, but that the format could be improved. We replaced the existing chat experience with a dashboard to make the information easier to digest. Our team worked with Flo’s product team and consulting physician to understand which information was most important for the different user types. By increasing the free users’ cycle report to include more data, we hope to pique their interest in learning about their cycle monthly.

Oomnitza
Named one of the top 20 tech companies to watch, Oomnitza is an enterprise software solution that tracks all of the things that make a business run. Oomnitza is disrupting their market with a product that is highly customizable, efficient, and committed to delightful user experience.

Excelra’s Global Online Structure Activity Relationship Database, known as GoStar, is one of the world’s largest and most robust chemistry databases. Their product is used by pharmaceutical companies to identify promising drug candidates and offers more than 30 different ways to search for a single chemical compound.
Neuron partnered with Excelra for an agile redesign of their SaaS product when it was time to deliver an improved V2 to their customers.
Our designers worked closely with Excelra’s product managers, developers, and subject experts to deliver an improved, guided search experience to make this complex product feel more intuitive. Through our improvement to advanced search, we were able to decrease the average time it takes users to find answers, from 30 seconds down to just 10 seconds.

Human
Human is a company of composers and producers creating entirely original music and sound design for commercials, movies, television, and recording artists. Their engineering team came to Neuron looking for a simple music library experience design that would be hosted on their existing website.
We worked with the Human team to design a responsive music player that allows users to view existing libraries and playlists, download songs, and search using metadata. Their more than 35,000 songs can be sorted, searched, and saved based on keywords, genre, mood, BPM and more.

In the Know
In the Know is an iOS application designed and developed by Neuron for Eliquent, Inc, to help Chinese speakers learn English by focusing on the phrases needed to converse with confidence. Users browse common scenarios in the format of a feed, and each scenario is constructed in a hybrid-language format designed to increase comprehension. Featuring curated content that is crafted to be simple and effective, In the Know is designed to help users understand sentence structure, concepts, and vocabulary in small, digestible bits. Neuron was brought in early in the concept stage to help define its features, produce a complete design specification, and launch to the App Store.
In the Know's magic is how it brings language learning into the real world. It’s image recognition capabilities provide users the power to scan their surroundings and instantly translate the world around them. In building the creator economy of the future, their mission is to redirect the flow of incentives back in the hands of the creators and users themselves
Neuron was brought in at a pivotal moment for the company to reimagine the Geojam mobile application to support this vision.
The backbone of the ecosystem is a cryptocurrency token, $JAM, and the Neuron team worked with the founders to create a marketing website that explains the Geojam value proposition while generating interest for their token launch.

Knex Technologies
Neuron partnered with a branding and advertising agency to design, build, and launch a new website for Knex, a major Oracle services provider, to allow them to stand out from the pack.

Ayadi
Ayadi Health is an online therapy platform that connects users with licensed mental health professionals. They brought in our team to improve the UX/UI of their mobile app. Serving the Middle Eastern market, a region with limited mental health services available, a service like Ayadi is in high demand and experienced a high volume of user sign-ups upon launch. But because of the poor first-time user experience and confusing booking flow, they saw significant drop-off with few users actually booking sessions. Through a heuristic evaluation we identified several usability and functional issues and subsequently redesigned these flows to provide a more guided and intuitive experience.

BSTEVR Sports
BSTEVR is a fantasy sports experience that leverages real, historical NFL data to create simulated results for matchups dreamt up by curious users. Written articles, or "Stories," are auto-generated using natural language processing for each simulated match, recapping the details of the match including simulated play-by-plays and stat lines, all based on odds. Stories are published to the platform for readers to enjoy and debate.

PreFlite takes the hassle out of being a freelance professional pilot, providing a single environment to manage flights, aircraft, operators, contracts, insurance, and even payment.
Neuron was tasked with redesigning the interface of the iOS application while improving the information architecture and critical flows based on revised business logic. It was as much an exercise in branding as it was user experience, to create a look and feel that resonated with the target audience, primarily private pilots.
Central to the experience of the application is a dashboard that enables pilots to quickly and easily view their schedule, add flights, and set up the vital information to execute them, such as assigning an aircraft and crew or coordinating multiple flight legs into more complex routes.

FutureDial
FutureDial creates software and robotic tools to facilitate the complex process of receiving and testing used phones and tablets. Their product line was built out over time, following client demand, and they needed a new website to feature their many products in a logical and unified way. FutureDial serves a range of customer types, most of whom are focused on just one part of the reverse supply chain. We were faced with the challenge of organizing the website in a way that was clear and intuitive to each customer type without distracting or impeding the rest. Through numerous iterations of customer journey maps and low-fidelity wireframes we arrived at one that struck the right balance.

City of Everett
Everett, MA is a diverse and rapidly growing city located just outside Boston. In recent years the City’s economy and population has been burgeoning but dated civic infrastructure has struggled to keep up. The City website was no exception.
We were tasked with overhauling the site to be an intuitive task completion and information tool while significantly reducing physical traffic to city hall. Through research, iteration, and testing, Neuron crafted an approachable utilitarian experience where Everett citizens can easily get their business done online.
Bringing coherence and consistency to the site required strong IA, UX, and visual design chops, but the effort also required a huge amount of empathy, patience, and negotiation.
In the end unique pages on the site were reduced from 396 to 63. To do this we drastically shallowed the experience and created three primary page types:
Inside Homepage - These pages are treated like brochures or guides, and are created for all secondary navigation items. Currently, 71 percent of visitors enter the Everett website via interior pages.
Endpoint Page - Endpoint pages are the deepest level of the site where detailed content and actionable affordances are provided. These pages also present associated information based on context and user intent.
Transaction Pages - These pages are used to focus the user on the task at hand. As task completion is the primary goal of the site, the user must either fulfill the steps required to complete the task and exit the modality or abandon the task altogether.

Marvel Optics
MarvelOptics was referred to Neuron by a VC firm looking to address a critical issue with its portfolio company's e-commerce site. The data showed that mobile accounted for 70% of site traffic, but only 10% of their revenue.
Our response was to design a truly mobile-first experience, seeking to lower friction and increase conversions.
With the launch of Neuron's new design, the average order value has increased by a staggering 97% and the overall conversion rate is up 18%.

Vivint
With more than a million active customers in North America, Vivint is a leader in the home security space.
Neuron was approached to solve a critical issue: improving inbound sales. In the end, we worked with stakeholders to design a gamified inside sales portal to help drive sales by providing a fun, openly competitive virtual space for sales representatives. The system also gives managers, directors, and C-level stakeholders insight into the performance of each rep, team, office, and region.
The design of the sales portal is centered around a modular dashboard of widgets. In the dashboard’s default state, all widgets are collapsed and display only the most crucial information. Widgets can be expanded in-place to reveal more details, always maintaining the context of the dashboard behind. The modular design allows for layout customization and supports future extensibility.

ICO Mint
ICO Mint is an investment platform that caters to both companies and investors, providing services to successfully launch an ICO as well as securely invest in one.
The platform presents unique investment opportunities to those who wish to participate in the burgeoning cryptocurrency and blockchain economy. Although cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology are rapidly becoming more mainstream, many are still unfamiliar with how it works and are intimidated by the idea of participating.
Our challenge was to make the convoluted world of cryptocurrency universally understandable and accessible to new adopters. This meant opting for clear copy over technical jargon and designing a clean, modern UI that looked more like a consumer product than a technical financial tool.

Cards for Causes
Each year businesses send hundreds of cards to clients and employees as a way of saying thanks. Cards for Causes is a custom greeting card company with a twist, donating a portion of all sales to a charity of the customer’s choosing. Customers can select from over 1,500 different card options and then further customize them to add a personal touch. Neuron worked with Cards for Causes to redesign and redevelop an e-commerce website and companion web app following their transition to BigCommerce. We redesigned the full experience and built out a customizer tool to give users more freedom with their card design. Since relaunch organic traffic is up 21% and time spent on the checkout flow reduced by 35%.

Projects for Good
Projects for Good is a web platform for funding and implementing humanitarian projects. It combines a crowdfunding platform, a job marketplace, and a social network to bring together all the necessary pieces to bring humanitarian projects to life.
Neuron has been involved in Projects for Good since its inception in 2016. From early design principles through development and operations, Neuron helped to conceptualize, design, build, and launch the web platform.
The greatest design challenge was designing a new type of platform in a way that was universally understandable to three distinct user types. This meant distilling everything the platform does down to its core offering: maximizing impact. The increased efficiency, transparency, and accountability all amounts to maximizing each user’s impact - a mission that was carried through all facets of the platform’s design, messaging, and functionality.

SmartRG
SmartRG provides products and services to simplify the residential internet ecosystem. We created a mobile app for the company to provide customers with a way to view and manage their Wi-Fi networks and connected devices.
The app gives customers more insight and control over their home Wi-Fi networks to provide a better customer experience as well as to reduce the number of support calls.
Customers can create and manage Wi-Fi networks, run speed tests, view and manage connected devices, and wirelessly reboot their modem.
We succeeded in reaching our goal with the design of creating a user experience that was as simple and intuitive as possible.

Wheel - Autonomous Ridesharing
The Challenge: With the rise of ride-sharing companies like Uber and point-to-point car-sharing companies like car2go, conventional rental car companies must reinvent their business model to remain competitive. One way for these companies to differentiate themselves is by betting big on the future of autonomous vehicles. Neuron imagines the first user interface for passenger interaction with an autonomous ride-sharing service.
The Solution: Wheel will allow users to arrange and pay for a ride in a Wheel-owned autonomous vehicle. An efficient, intuitive, and emotive interface will build trust between users and this new service. The Wheel vehicle will provide users with trip information, identity verification, comfort controls, the ability to make an emergency stop, and allow children to check-in with parents.

VYTL Fitness
The VYTL Fitness mobile app is a social fitness platform designed to empower users with control over how they exercise. VYTL, created by the parent company of Ford Models, allows users to browse, upload, watch, and share exercise videos.
The Neuron team was brought in during the early stages of concept development, helping to define the value proposition, features, and interaction model. We were also responsible for the full design and front-end development.
Users of the app can browse, watch, upload, and share short exercise videos called Clips, which can then be assembled to build custom Workouts, much like a music playlist. Users may also discover other users’ Clips and Workouts by browsing what is recommended, trending, or recently added as well as by theme (channel) or by creator.
The strong social element of the application helps users stay motivated in their training. The app also provides the ability to follow friends and favorite trainers, as well as tracking various social and fitness-related metrics via the Dashboard feature.

Hackbright Academy
Hackbright Academy is the leading software engineering school exclusively for women. Through education, mentorship, and a successful alumnae network, Hackbright Academy is working hard to narrow the gender gap that currently exists in the computer science industry.
Neuron was challenged with giving Hackbright Academy an edge in an increasingly competitive market by providing a modern brand redesign, a fresh logo, and an updated marketing website.
We began by conducting an in-depth analysis of Hackbright’s existing marketing website. After documenting a full inventory of the content and structure, we then re-imagined the site from the ground up.
By consolidating the top-level navigation to three key sections and strategically layering the information beneath, the redesigned marketing site is able to more effectively engage prospective students regardless of where they are in the sales funnel. Throughout the site, animations and interactive elements, such as a coding aptitude quiz, create an enjoyable and memorable experience for all users.

Mobile App Development for Creator Economy Platform
"Their strong points are their personability and rigor in their implementation."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the head of product for Geojam, a creator economy startup. We’re building a mobile app to connect fans and creators better.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We had an existing wireless platform, but it wasn’t up to par with our standards.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Initially, Neuron came in to redesign our application. They’ve rebuilt everything from the ground up. We started with UX research and moved to UX/UI design on Figma.
The product is a community-based app for creators. Fans and users have access to exciting features, almost like a subscription-based app or gated community where users can have unique interactions with creators. Each community has the potential to have a shop for its own merchandise experience and NFTs. We’re building it on React Native.
Additionally, Neuron will provide maintenance.
What is the team composition?
Mark (Director of Strategy) is our main point of contact. We have 4–5 people on the team at any time, including 2–3 UI designers, UX/UI design lead, and a UX strategist.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
We researched the best firms and cross-checked them with platforms like Clutch.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent between $150,000–$200,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in November 2021, and our relationship is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The new design system is fully fleshed out. We’ve implemented the screens and designs, and they’ve definitely exceeded expectations.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management is excellent. We use Slack, Monday, Figma, texts, and calls to communicate.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their strong points are their personability and rigor in their implementation.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, they’ve done a great job.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
It’s simple — the more you put in, the more you get out.

Software Design for Mortgage Company
“Neuron has found a way to merge different aspects of our previous softwares to create a new, user-friendly system.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the COO of a mortgage company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
Like many mortgage companies, we have many employees working on various interfaces and software to process underwrites and deliver loans. It was incredibly inefficient and we wanted to develop a system that could host all of our functionalities and be more user-friendly. At the same time, we wanted to have software with more automation. So, we hired Neuron to help us with the system design.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Neuron is designing our software interface in Figma. We’ve provided their team with our employee workflows and how we interacted with the existing software. Neuron has then used that information to better understand what we need them to design. Neuron’s team has just finished working on the workflows and wireframes that will lay a solid foundation before we delve into the visuals and specific content.
What is the team composition?
We regularly work with five teammates from Neuron, including two partners and three designers.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
We knew we needed a design company to help us develop the software, so we asked for references and did some research on Google. We found several recommendations for Neuron during that process, claiming they were one of the top design firms. We talked to several other vendors, but Neuron had the capacity and was the best fit.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our engagement with Neuron was from September 2021–January 2022. However, we’ve only paused the project for now, so we will pick it back up soon.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Since we’re still in the initial stages of wireframing, we don’t have anything that can be put into production or bring immediate value to our company. However, Neuron’s work has been an excellent start to our next development steps. They’ve fully understood what we need and have presented us with a complete structure with every functionality we need. Neuron has found a way to merge different aspects of our previous softwares to create a new, user-friendly system to replace our old one. Neuron has done a great job.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
Neuron delivered on schedule — our initial two phases were set to last 3–4 months, and they followed that timeline. We communicated frequently, meeting twice a week to discuss designs and answer questions. I was personally involved in all the project management in Figma, so there weren’t any gaps between our companies.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Neuron’s ability to understand our business model and needs is impressive. They obviously don’t have experience in every industry they’re going to work in, but Neuron can quickly understand our detailed processes and daily business operations.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I would like to see more out of the box, creative ideas from the Neuron team.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I would let future customers know that they need to know what they want from a partnership. If both parties know the goal and the path forward, a collaboration with Neuron will be successful.

UX/UI Design for Radar Image Processing Tech Company
"They’re respectful, polite, and responsive — they’re everything that we could’ve wanted."

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the R&D manager for a marine tech company. We develop high-tech systems for the marina industry.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We’re revamping a system that has been in place for a long time. It had an old UI, so we wanted to update it and substantially extend its flexibility.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We’ve engaged Neuron to help us with UX and UI. The project is essentially a desktop application that runs on PC hardware. However, the system is dedicated to this particular app; it’s not general-purpose.
We had an initial phase where we talked about the requirements. Then, they used Figma to capture the designs. Right now, the bulk of work is essentially finished, and they’re currently just providing support. We’ll occasionally be talking to Neuron for the next few months because we want to run certain things by them.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with about five people during the project, but we mostly interact with one person. For the first couple of months, there was a second person, and then other people helped finish it as well.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
It was a Google search. We compared different options, and we liked Neuron because they were a team and could bring a range of skills as needed.
What is the status of this engagement?
The partnership began in May 2021, and it’s ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We don’t have any formal metrics. All the people in the company have seen their work, which ranges from the marketing team and CEO to all the developers. Overall, the informal feedback we’ve received has been extremely good.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
They’ve been good; they’re pretty open about their project management. Initially, the team indicated the risks and had a schedule. They updated us on where we were in the process, and we felt everything was pretty well handled. Essentially, they worked with an Agile methodology, which fitted very well as we were also using an Agile approach.
We use GitHub internally, but they aren’t really exposed to it. Overall, we use Slack for communication and a bit of Microsoft Teams. We also meet over Zoom about once a week, and there are some telephone conversations.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They quickly came up to speed on a very complex and unfamiliar system. It wasn’t a website, and there were a lot of complex technical aspects. However, Neuron’s team got to grips with the key concerns, which was very impressive and appreciated by all those who worked with them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
There were cheaper options, and we knew that they would be expensive, but it went with the territory. Also, there was a bit of concern upfront about minor admin issues in talking to our financial people, but that was minor. Overall, it’s been a great working relationship. They’re respectful, polite, and responsive — they’re everything that we could’ve wanted.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be open with them. One of the things we ran into was that it was difficult for us to enunciate our goals very precisely but we feel that they came to understand well what we were looking for through their approach to the project and the constant interaction we had with them. Initially, they seemed to require a clear vision from us and wanted to speak to our direct customers. It was understandable, but it had some practical issues. It took a little while for them to get to grips with that.
Nonetheless, they were just trying to ensure we’d meet our expectations. They were very keen to make sure that we got what we were looking for from the project but our requirements of them were not rigidly defined. I think it took a little time for them to get used to that.
Most important was that we wanted to improve the user experience for our customers. We wanted Neuron to use their skill set, experience and creativity to come up with a much better user interface that were capable of producing ourselves. The close working relationship that ensued though worked out very well and we got exactly what we wanted from the project. In the end, we don’t have any concerns coming out of it. Neuron did precisely what we wanted on that front, and everyone internally has been happy with their work.

UI/UX Consulting for Private Airport Terminal
“It was impressive how nimble and dedicated Neuron was. We almost felt that they were part of our company.”
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of a private airport terminal.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We initially hired Neuron to review the UI/UX of our inward-facing operating system.
What was the scope of their involvement?
First, we collaborated with Neuron on a scoping exercise. As I mentioned, the requirement was to review the UI/UX of our operating system. From this exercise, they came up with a timeline and a budget for our project.
Halfway through our initial engagement, we realized that they were very talented, and we worked well together. They understood our customers, internal processes, and stakeholders very well, so we expanded their scope. We asked them to also review the UI/UX of our website and user-facing reservation systems.
What is the team composition?
We worked with two people from Neuron.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
We interviewed around 10 firms, each one coming either from our own discovery or from asking our referrals. I don’t remember how we found Neuron exactly, but it was probably through referrals.
We have a very unique business and a very discerning luxury customer. During the interview process, Neuron stood out because we felt that they understood our business and customers very well.
Additionally, they proved to be very responsive, thoughtful, and thorough, and they offered great customer service. We felt that they cared deeply about us and wanted to work with us.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent around $100,000–$250,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together from March–September 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
What I loved about Neuron was that nothing was too big or too small for them. The project ended up having life on its own, and they never said that something was beneath them or that it required a lot of minacious work for them to handle. They were equally dedicated to all parts of the project, whether they were minor or major.
Additionally, Neuron very quickly understood our business and the customers that we served, which made our engagement better.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
Neuron was on time and on budget, which usually never happens.
What did you find most impressive about them?
It was impressive how nimble and dedicated Neuron was. We almost felt that they were part of our company. They were always available and dedicated to us, and they had an intimate understanding of our business.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No. We basically want to continue working with them forever.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Spend a lot of time upfront to get them up to speed and having them understand your business. I felt that they were very valuable to us because of that understanding.

What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We wanted to bring our vision of these skill-based competitions to the masses and democratize action sports. Our original MVP was built too quickly and many of its features were poorly thought out, so we brought in Neuron to rebuild it.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Neuron fully immersed themselves into the sports world to really get a grasp of what we're trying to create and for what purpose. Since we're more sports-oriented, we let them take the ropes when it comes to the technical aspects of the project.
Neuron was tasked with rebuilding the mobile app, redoing its branding and design. The team went into developing versions of it for the web as well as for Android and iOS devices, all the while coordinating with our third-party development team.
We continue to work with some on iterating and releasing new features.
What is the team composition?
There are a few people working on this project, but our main contact and point person is Matt (Creative Director).
How did you come to work with Neuron?
A colleague of mine had worked with Neuron on a web app that I was thoroughly impressed with. They were the perfect fit, so I brought them over.
How much have you invested with them?
I believe we've spent $650,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in May 2019, and it’s an ongoing partnership.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Our product is still young, but our user base is now growing In terms of buys per month. Neuron has really helped us overcome a lot of strategic design decisions, saving us a lot of time and money through their foresight. They’ve helped us redesign from start to finish, and I couldn't have done it without them.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
I would rate them very highly for project management. It’s just incredible. They’ve worked with us for months after the product was launched to make sure that we were capturing ideas and feedback from our users and making iterations accordingly. I can't say enough nice things about these guys because they've given us exactly what we needed.
We communicate via Slack and email. They provide frequent updates and constantly let us know what’s going on.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re a team that can troubleshoot and think ahead of us. Even though all we've given them is our tacit industry knowledge, they were able to produce a wonderful product.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Neuron continuously surprises and excites us, so I don’t think there’s anything for them to improve. They've worked above and beyond the call of duty.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Allow Neuron to exercise their creative freedom. Value their advice because they know exactly how to build a complicated app while making it function well and look nice.

UX Design for Music Industry Company
"The cleanliness and straightforwardness of their work really tied it together for me."

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re a music production house for the advertising industry. We write custom music and license tracks out to advertising agencies for anything from local radio spots to international TV campaigns and Super Bowl commercials.
I’m the associate director of engineering in the company, handling tech development. I also work with digital assets like our music tracks.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We were trying to build a platform to make our music available online to editors and music agencies. We wanted to give them the tools to search through our music and approach us with a clear picture of what they wanted.
What was the scope of their involvement?
I gave Neuron an initial brief that described what we were looking for in detail. Similar platforms existed already, but we were looking to set ourselves apart from the competition. Neuron researched the references I gave them, scouting our competitors’ platforms.
Neuron designed our platform’s UI/UX. They started by scoping out different user personas and determining what features should be included for each one. Wireframing only took about 1–2 months, and the design process took up the following three. We developed and elaborated on the user flow of the interface and started filling in the elements. We had weekly feedback rounds.
The final deliverable was a design blueprint of what the pages of the platform would look like, with indicators and descriptions of what elements would go where so that our chosen developer would have no questions regarding the design.
What is the team composition?
I believe there were three people from Neuron on the team. One of their founders was the project lead, and the other two were designers.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
I searched online through dozens of UX companies and interviewed three of them. I found that Neuron had the cleanest designs in their portfolio, and I also liked that they were architects in a prior career. The deliverables and detail planning have to be immaculate with architectural design, which told us that they would a good grasp of ours.
How much have you invested with them?
The project cost was $40,000–$60,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked with Neuron between January–May 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Neuron developed what is, in our eyes, one of the best music library interfaces out there. Our hosting company also mentioned that Neuron did a meticulous job, especially considering that they hadn’t worked in the music and entertainment field before.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
Their co-founder acted as the single point of contact between us and Neuron. They were very clear from a communication and project management standpoint.
We had a shared Slack channel as well as weekly Zoom meetings. Everybody was on the same page about developments throughout the week. I shot ideas back and forth with Neuron, and we discussed those with the greater group during our weekly meeting.
Their team performed well, and they didn’t have too many parts to manage throughout the process.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The cleanliness and straightforwardness of their work really tied it together for me. Neuron knocked it out of the park with their visual representation of ideas.
Are there any areas they could improve?
We have a strict path forward with this project. There was a bit of uncertainty at times regarding how many rounds of revisions we could get, so there could be room for improvement there. I have no complaints other than this, however. I was very impressed by them.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Neuron is extremely open to discussing all matters and ideas, but I had to bring things their way on my own account. My advice is for clients to reach out to them with any ideas that pop up.

UI/UX Design Services for Pharmaceutical Vendor
“They delivered above and beyond our expectations.”

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the director of scientific products at Excelra. We’re a pharmaceutical vendor that engages with any company in the life sciences, whether it be pharma or biotech. Our role is to help amplify an organization’s needs. That can range from helping them with resources by amplifying their workforce or through our flagship products. One of those products is about servicing the pharma industry early in the drug and discovery process. Another product focuses on biomarkers.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
Our flagship product is going through an entire redesign. We wanted to pivot and create a next-generation experience for our client as well as provide a beautiful and improved UX so our users can get to their answers quicker. Our team wanted to find a UI/UX vendor because we needed someone with the skillset and know-how to turn an older-generation website into a user-driven website. In this case, it was all about how we refocused our UI based on what the user is expecting.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Neuron designed the entire UI/UX for our core user flows in our next-generation product. One of the first things they did was to assess our current offering, take what we have as a core user flow, and translate those into actual experience. Using Figma and other tools, they built an entire user color palette as well as the core frame of our website, which comprises our header and footer.
Then, they went and designed the UI for every step from when a user enters our site — how they log in, how they enter our search page, and so on. Their team delivered many functionalities such as the ability to autofill. Neuron also built a guided experience. If the user wants to go beyond a search, they can utilize the complex search queries in our database that provide the ability to simplify that process for the user.
The Neuron team organized the data in a way that makes sense to the user and then created the left-hand panel for us to manage that. Next, their team made sure that everything we built could be used on any screen size including tablet. The deliverables were wireframes and prototypes that serve as a blueprint of how to build our website from the ground up.
What is the team composition?
We worked with Matt (Creative Director) and Mark (Director of Strategy).
How did you come to work with Neuron?
Someone in our organization had previously worked with Neuron at a prior company; their team was suggested to us. We put out a bid, asking Neuron and others to bid on the project. Based on how Neuron approached and talked through the problem, we thought they’d be the best fit.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested $84,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our engagement was from February–April 2021.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The speed at which our clients and users will be able to engage with the database is much faster. Previously, the speed was anywhere from 30 seconds to one minute. We went from 30 seconds to 10 seconds in terms of improvements in getting to the answer. The guided experience that Neuron worked on is also a highlight of their deliverables. We’ve gone from users being afraid of this feature to them embracing it.
If I had a larger budget, I would have kept Neuron on longer because we could’ve kept doing many more iterations. They’re a high-quality team so they cost a bit more than the average firm. However, they’re still reasonable. They delivered above and beyond our expectations. Their team was flexible even in the way we engaged with them.
Neuron was tremendously helpful. They’re not experts in chemistry, they have no background in it, but they caught on very quickly. Their research and time spent with us were excellent all around. Chemistry is a complex subject area. Neuron made our UI so simple that when users land on a results page, they know exactly what they’re looking at.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
They were great at project management. Their team hit all of the timelines. Neuron was straightforward with their project plan. Out of the gate, they told us how long the project was going to be as well as outlined all of the milestones. They were great about the timelines. We worked with them throughout the process and constantly spoke on Slack. Through Slack, we were asking and answering questions, and Neuron presented their findings and prototypes once a week.
Once a week, we met to do real-time feedback. Their team was very upfront about what they could and couldn’t do. That was fantastic because it gave me a way to assess how far the partnership would take us and what we’d get from them. Neuron was true to their word. They delivered within those timelines exactly when they said they would.
What did you find most impressive about them?
It was very easy to work with Neuron; that’s the best part about their team. The partnership was intimate because we worked with only two of their team members. We got to know each other really well. Within a couple of weeks, it was so easy to talk to them. The interaction was seamless.
It felt like they were part of the team. At no point did I think they were a vendor, it was as if they were part of our organization. The engagement was a great experience. Neuron made it easy to provide them with feedback and it made them comfortable to give us feedback. They provided us with the ability to make fast decisions and turn things around quickly.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, they gave us what we expected and worked on our timeline.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Stay realistic and don’t ask for the moon. If you stay within the bounds of the project and what your expectations are, you’ll be very pleased with the results. Listen to Neuron because they know what they’re doing. Trust their intuition.

UI/UX Design for Business Development Company
"They were careful in ensuring all our project requirements were met."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CTO of an industrial employee lifecycle management company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We had launched a pilot for a new product offering and had collected feedback on it from our customers. We wanted to take that feedback and use it to influence new features we added to the product.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We worked with them primarily on designs for new features. We would collaborate regularly to brainstorm how to best address the client feedback in the new designs. After these brainstorming sessions, they would develop the new designs and deliver them via Figma at the end of each step of the project.
What is the team composition?
I worked with Ryan (Co-Founder) and another member of their team.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
I used Google to search for UX designers and then set up introductory calls with several firms to gauge how their process and approach would fit the project. With Neuron, I spoke with Chris (User Experience Lead). He impressed me with their flexibility and defined strategy to help web development firms work through new product features.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about $115,000 with them on this engagement.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked together on this project from September 2020–March 2021. We now have them on retainer and work with them on other projects.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We wanted to make sure our development team could implement the designs in an expedited time frame. They met this goal with the designs they delivered, as our team implemented them right on time. We also had a number of specific criteria for the design that had to be accommodated in a limited space. They were able to meet all these criteria without the design becoming too busy. In addition to these goals, we wanted to make sure that the new page was easier for our customers to use. Based on the feedback we’ve received, they met this goal as well.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
They did extremely well with project management. Their team always met deadlines, communicated well, took detailed notes, and maintained a flexible approach throughout the engagement. Rather than approaching the project from any specific framework model, they worked to augment our own processes and provide the designs to achieve our product goals.
We communicated daily via a Slack Connect channel. We also had real-time brainstorming sessions over Zoom twice a week.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their attention to detail was most impressive. They were careful in ensuring all our project requirements were met.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t have anything they could improve on.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
If you’re looking for advice on how to approach the project, they’d certainly give it. If you explain your typical processes to them, though, they’ll accommodate those processes well in their approach. It’s also worth spelling out your specific requirements in advance. They’ll make sure they’re all met.

UI/UX & Feature Design for Women's Health Platform
"Unlike other vendors I previously engaged, Neuron sought opportunities to expand their work but didn’t push us."

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the VP of product at Flo Health. We have a women’s health app that uses a 10-day cycle to help women understand their bodies.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We needed to expand our design team with external resources. Additionally, we wanted to add a feature that would send women a monthly report about their cycles. We had a clear end goal but needed help bringing it to life.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Neuron was involved with our team throughout the design process, working in stages. We provided them with requirements documentation and then they did more research to help determine the best format for the reporting feature. We also provided Neuron with a couple of UI options and gathered their team’s feedback.
A medical board reviewed the wireframes to give another perspective. The reports follow official guidelines and help women understand their bodies’ health. The feature also includes graphs to show a user’s results in comparison to other users.
What is the team composition?
I had two contacts at Neuron but also worked with a dedicated partner who oversaw the deliverables and two designers.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
I found Neuron on Clutch and liked them because their team included architects, so I felt that they would have a good aesthetic direction. After looking through their portfolio, I knew their team was experienced. I felt that it would be easy to work with them.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent $15,000 on their services.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started our engagement in July and their team completed the bulk of the project in October 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Neuron saw our project as not only art but also science, which I appreciated. We gathered feedback from users who expressed their delight about the clarity of the information provided in the reports. The graphs were easy to understand too.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
In the beginning, their team seemed to misunderstand us. We had to repeat all the details to the design lead who wasn’t in the meeting with our business contacts at Neuron. After that cleared, they did great. We communicated by adding them to our Slack channel. They were reliable and accommodated our needs. Their team was also flexible with the timing.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Once Neuron dedicated a team to our project, they didn’t change the designers. That allowed us to follow through the entire process together. Unlike other vendors I previously engaged, Neuron sought opportunities to expand their work but didn’t push us.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Neuron should show off their talent and expertise upfront. Their team thought about the app’s architecture and sought ways to be more collaborative. It would’ve been helpful to engage with those qualities earlier.

UX & Web Design for Consumer Media Startup
"Neuron delivered a more well-thought-out product than originally intended."
the reviewer
the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the Chief Product Officer at a consumer media company that's in pre-launch.
What challenge were you trying to address with Neuron?
We needed to design our 1.0 product, which is a desktop and mobile progressive web app. We had an extensive product requirements document (PRD) for our product and we had developers, but we needed someone to do the design.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Neuron took the entire PRD and went through all the various pieces to translate it into UX. We have three major parts of the product. They worked on the broad and individual site architecture, the flow of individual areas, and did the design.
They also worked on the individual componentry. The work output of that was a collection of Figma designs that our developers worked off of to build the product.
What is the team composition?
At the height of the project, we worked with four teammates, but we worked regularly with two teammates. Mark (Director of Strategy) was our main point of contact.
How did you come to work with Neuron?
We were working with a company in New York that was going to do some UX prototyping for us, and they had an existing partnership with Neuron for the design element. We trusted their referral.
We talked to Neuron, and they walked us through some of their previous projects that were most similar to what we were doing. It was clear to us that they would be up to the task.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent just north of $50,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began working with them in July 2020, and the majority of the work was completed in September 2020.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The developers and engineers we worked with had a very positive perception of what Neuron had done. We certainly felt that they not only built us a very modern, contemporary version of what we had imagined, but they also took it beyond what we had imagined.
That’s something we’re always looking for in a design partner — someone who will take what we want and align it with our goals for the product. We consistently felt that they gave us what we asked for and gave us the best version of that. Neuron delivered a more well-thought-out product than originally intended.
How did Neuron perform from a project management standpoint?
We had a very clear view of what our schedule was, which was important because we had a lot of moving parts and a lot of contributors. We had a fairly aggressive waterfall between design, UX engineering, and product, so it was important that we stayed on that waterfall so that everything kept moving.
We used Jira to collaborate with everyone involved in the project, and we also communicated via Slack. Their speed and clarity of communication were great. They stayed ahead of things, reached out, and asked clarifying questions ahead of time early rather than having it pile up.
What did you find most impressive about them?
In the beginning, it was clear that they had the experience and the depth that we needed for the scale and scope of what we were building. That proved to be absolutely true.
Neuron was able to go from the very top and not miss anything in terms of the site architecture, all the way down to the lowest details. Their clear experience in managing something of this scale and scope was the reason we chose them, and it proved to be true.
Are there any areas they could improve?
When you have a project of this kind of scope, you have to manage the details on time. The vast majority of the time, they were reliable and clearly met our expectations, and they found things that we hadn’t looked at.
There was an occasion here or there where details were missed, which were the toughest moments of the project.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be very clear about the experience you want the user to have and then give Neuron enough elbow room to digest that and deliver against not only what you ask but also what will be best for the user.
Give them enough detail of what you’re trying to accomplish rather than the exact solution. Give them the breathing room to express your vision in their own way and you’ll get the most value.
The new design is fully fleshed out — Neuron has implemented the screens and designs, and they’ve exceeded the client’s expectations. The team has done an excellent job, and they’ve led the project seamlessly. They communicate effectively via Slack, Monday, Figma, texts, and calls.
